  • What is ShabbatForShalom?

ShabbatForShalom is a platform that encourages individuals to commit to keeping Shabbat in the merit of an Israeli soldier, especially during the ongoing war, Operation Swords of Iron. Every Zechut counts!

  • Why Shabbat?

Shabbat, often greeted with the phrase “Shabbat Shalom,” embodies rest and peace. It’s a day set aside for spiritual tranquility and reflection. The tradition of lighting Shabbat candles, as explained in the Talmud, brings light and tranquility to the home. This day offers a break from routine, encouraging a peaceful and contemplative environment that enriches both individual and communal spirituality.

  • How can I participate in ShabbatForShalom?

You can participate by signing up on using the short form above. It’s free and easy!

  • How is a soldier assigned to me?

Soldiers are assigned to you automatically when you sign up. You will receive a confirmation email with the soldiers name as well. Make sure to print out the email or write down the soldiers name, and have them in mind during Shabbat.

  • Can I add a soldiers name to your list?

Yes, and please do! To add a chayal’s name to the list, click here. Please enter the soldiers hebrew first name and the first name of their mother. E.g. Avraham ben Sarah

  • How can I share ShabbatForShalom with others?

You can share our website link on social media, via email, or through other communication channels to encourage more people to join this initiative. Use the hashtag #ShabbatForShalom on social media. The more zechutim (merits), the quicker we will win this war.

Have a Meaningful Shabbat

Here are some tips for a more meaningful Shabbat

Preparation

Begin your preparations for Shabbat a day or two in advance. This includes cleaning the house, preparing meals, and setting the table. The act of preparation helps to set the tone for the special day ahead.

Candle Lighting

Light the Shabbat candles 18 minutes before sunset. This act ushers in the Shabbat and sets a serene atmosphere in the home. Take a moment to say a blessing and reflect on the week that has passed.

Quality Family Time

Use this day to bond with family members. Engage in meaningful conversations, play games, and share stories from the past week.

Go To Shul

If possible, attend synagogue services. Praying in a community setting can be a spiritually uplifting experience.

Invite Guests

Share traditional Shabbat meals with family and friends. Enjoy a leisurely meal and relish the traditional dishes.

Rest and Rejuvenate

Use this day to rest both physically and mentally. Take a nap, meditate, or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Shabbat.
